An upgrade to version 25.3 requires version 8.7.2. To upgrade from an older version requires either a two-step upgrade on the designer's system, or a data migration using DataMover and DataManager. You could also run the base install and do the successive upgrades on your system.
- Decide which version you want to use in the middle. This example shows version 8.8.2.
- Use DataManager to reset all three databases to start fresh.
- You should launch all three versions of Framer and open Program Settings. This makes sure that Framer runs and also ensures that there is a User Profile when you work with DataMover. Close all open versions.
- Use DataMover to import the customer database into the same version as they are running. Open the MDMF file in a text editor to see the database version and update. List of database versions. In this example it shows version 8.6.2 Update 7.
- After importing the database, open that version of Framer. (8.6.2) It's helpful to identify something in the tool ribbon or database that you can check each time to see if the database is upgraded. In this example, they have several tools added to the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT). Close Framer.
- Launch the base version (8.6.2) DataManager. Create a backup of this database.
- Close 8.6.2 DataManager and open the middle version (8.8.2) DataManager. Restore the 8.6.2 data backup.
- Next, Upgrade that database to the middle version.
- Note that the version should be upgraded. Open Famer middle version 8.8.2 to check.
- Open the middle version (8.8.2) DataManager again and create a backup.
- Launch the final version DataManager (25.3) and restore from the previous version backup.
- Then upgrade the database. It should show the correct version.
- Launch Framer, final version (25.3). Check whatever you have identified as a custom item.
- Open the Program Settings and click "Save". This ensures that there is a profile to use in DataMover.
- Launch DataMover. Select all on the General Tab and select your user profile on the User tab.
- Zip the MDMF and send the upgraded database to your customer.
