'Save as' in BC Calc Offline Mode (Chrome and Edge Browsers)

Have you noticed a lack of control in the way your browser (Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge?) saves files? This could cause files to be saved as the default name 'BC CALC Project.bccx' or it might even append a number to the end of files because duplicates are being created, all of which makes the files difficult to identify later!

Both Chrome and Edge have similar out-of-box behavior when it comes to handling downloads, and both can be changed within their Settings, under Downloads.

Google Chrome

Chrome's default is to save files to a specified Download folder and show the history of downloaded files in a tray across the bottom of the screen. With this default behavior Chrome never prompts with a Save As dialog.

To have Chrome Ask where to save each file before downloading

Open Settings from the upper right, three dots icon mceclip1.png.

- Expand the Advanced settings in the left navigation or search for the term "Downloads".

- Under Downloads, enable the setting Ask where to save each file before downloading.

Microsoft Edge
Edge's default is to save files to a specified Download folder and show the history of downloaded files in a tray which drops from the bottom of the Download icon mceclip4.png. With this default behavior Edge never prompts with a Save As dialog.

To be prompted with What do you want to do with....[file name] and the option to Save as each time:

- Open Settings from the upper right, three dots icon mceclip5.png.

- Select Downloads from the left navigation and toggle the setting for Ask me what to do with each download.
