Duration (a.k.a. Load Duration Factors)

Load duration factors adjust the allowable stresses according to the amount of time a load is fully applied to a member. The less time the load is fully applied, the higher the duration factor.

Note: Duration factors are represented as percentages (115%) or decimal numbers (1.15).

Duration values used by BC FramerĀ® software:

  • Dead (90%)
  • Live (100%)
  • Roof Live (125%)
  • Snow (100% or 115%)
  • Wind (133% or 160%)

Please consult your local building code official for the correct load duration values in your area.
