Choosing the Products app opens by default to the Joist Selector. This simplified tool can give you a quick solution for a given span and load: Results based on residential floor loads of 40 psf live load and 10 psf dead load (12 psf dead load for BCI® 90 2.0 & 90s 2.0 / AJS 25 & 30 joists).
0:04: The opening page is joist selector, the first item on the joist menu.
0:09: This is a simple joist selection tool for BCI joists in simple span and multi-span conditions based on a standard residential loading.
0:18: Click on the general notes link to carefully review the design parameters and limitations.
0:24: First select your span type.
0:26: For this example, choose simple span.
0:29: Select 14 inch from the joist depth drop down.
0:32: Choose a joist span of 18 ft from the list.
0:36: Floor performance is based on deflection controls L over 360, L over 480, and L over 960.
0:44: Choose L over 480 from the list.
0:48: You will notice that the passing options are shown in the grid below.
0:52: A green diamond indicates the options that pass by series and on center spacing.
0:59: Look at the bottom right corner, click the printer icon for the option to print to PDF.
1:05: It includes your contact information, the design parameters, as well as the list of results.
1:11: Use this tool to share the options with your customers.
1:15: Click on multi-span, and the graphic will update accordingly.
1:19: The multi-span condition assumes you have entered the longest span for consideration.
1:25: As stated in the general notes, analyze multiple span joists with BC calc sizing software if the length of any span is less than half the length of an adjacent span.
